In kindergarten, I always wondered who Richard Stands was because we always gave a little shout out to him in the Pledge of Allegiance. You, with your mad bag of skills. It’s amazing the knowledge you’ve amassed. But you’re so familiar with all the many things you can do that you can’t see how unique their combination is. If you can’t tell time, everything is a clock. I bet there’s something that you dearly want but can’t have. I imagine everything has become that object of your desire. We all get that pang when we want something. You may call it passion or drive but I think we’re really talking about a fire that is set by a far more powerful accelerant. That accelerant is *the little ache*. Cup…empty. You with all that strength, be a hero. Fearless enough to forgive, loving enough to understand, courageous enough to create second chances for others— Life can throw curve balls and sometimes it feels like you’ve caught the ball in the head one too many times. I get it. But you know, those are just moments and life… Look at you with your capable self. The years have taught you quite a bit. You get it. At least, that’s how others look at it. “…and you know how God watches out for children and fools,” the woman said as if there was nothing truer, no action more perfect or expected than that one. I have never lost the understanding I had as a 2 year old little girl that mommy and daddy would always love me no matter what…I carry it with me, whether I’m aware of it or not. It grants me freedoms, real or imagined, as I walk into new situations and meet new people. |
